Choosing a countertop display fridge

It is an impulse-sales tool, so put it where the queue stands. The whole point of a benchtop unit is line-of-sight at the register — cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes, sushi. If it ends up behind the operator, you have bought a small fridge, not a display.

Counter space decides the model. Ours are 428 mm to 1,219 mm wide and 63 L to 200 L. Measure the run of bench you can actually give up, then pick capacity — most cafés land on 428–800 mm. Also check what is above: these vent heat, and a unit jammed under a shelf will run hot and struggle on a 35 °C day.

Temperature. 13 of the 19 run 2 °C to 8 °C, which is the chilled band for drinks, packaged sandwiches and cakes. If you are displaying hot food, that is a different cabinet — see our pie warmers and hot food displays. If it needs no cooling at all — bread, croissants, biscuits — see ambient food displays.

Countertop cake display

A curved or square glass countertop cake display is the commonest use of this range, and 2 °C to 8 °C is the band cream and custard need. The limit is size: if you want more than about 200 L, or multiple tiers, you want a floor-standing cabinet instead — see cake display fridges.

Lighting and doors. Every model in this range is glass, so the product is the display. Some are single-door for staff access from behind, some are two-door; on a self-serve counter, decide whether customers or staff open it before you choose.
