Why benchtop

A benchtop cooker adds a cooking process without adding a footprint: a café putting on toasted sandwiches, a bar adding hot food, a kitchen trialling a menu item before committing to a floor-standing machine. It also moves — which matters for catering, pop-ups and anything on a lease you might not renew.

Power is the limit, and it is a hard one

Most benchtop electric equipment runs on a standard 10 amp outlet, and that caps the output. Anything more powerful needs 15 amp or three-phase, and a bench with four 15 amp appliances on it needs the circuits to match. Work out what the bench can actually supply before you choose the gear — this is the single most common reason a benchtop purchase does not work out.

Ventilation and clearance

Benchtop does not mean it can go anywhere. Check the clearance to the wall and to anything above, and be honest about whether the process needs extraction — frying on an open bench without a canopy will coat the kitchen in grease whatever the brochure says.
