What a kit is, and where it stops
A DIY kit is the room, not the refrigeration. You get insulated panels cut to a footprint, the door, and the fittings that hold it together — delivered flat and assembled on site. What a kit never includes is a legal way to charge the system: the refrigeration has to be installed and commissioned by a licensed refrigeration technician, because handling refrigerant without a licence is an offence, not a shortcut. That is the line to be clear about before you compare a kit price against a built-and-installed price. We do both halves, so the quote can be split whichever way suits you.
When a kit is the right call
Kits suit a clear, square footprint with good access and no obstacles: a shed corner, a new fit-out where the slab is already down, a second room beside an existing one. They also suit anyone who has trades on site already and would rather buy the panels than buy the labour. Where kits stop being cheaper is the awkward job — a room that has to work around a beam, a doorway that will not take a panel, a floor that is out of level, or a site where the only access is through a working kitchen. That is when the assembly you were going to save on becomes the expensive part.
A freezer kit is not a cool room kit with a colder thermostat
The panel is thicker, the floor has to be built for it, the door frame wants heating so the seal does not ice itself shut, and the defrost regime is something a cool room never needs. Converting a cool room into a freezer room afterwards usually costs more than building the right one at the start, so be honest at the sizing stage about what the room will be holding in three years — not what it holds this month.
Fitting it out
Once the room is up, what goes in it is the same either way: cool room and freezer room shelving in 16 sizes across two depths, rated 150 kg a shelf. Work the bay layout out before the room is closed up — it is much easier to get shelving through a doorway that has not had a door hung on it yet.
Getting a number
Tell us the footprint you have to work with, the ceiling height, and whether it is a cool room or a freezer room, and we will come back with a kit list and a price. If the job looks like it wants a room designed and built to the site instead, we will say so — that is usually the cheaper answer on an awkward space, and we would rather tell you now than after the panels arrive.
